What Is the Hub?

The Hub is not a single program.

           It is shared economic infrastructure.

At its core, the Hub provides coordinated business support and regional programming through a centralized, place-based model designed to help underrepresented businesses participate in and succeed in the clean energy and climate economy.

E&BC was selected to serve as the Pioneer Valley Hub. In this role, we are responsible for delivering core services and coordinating support across the region to ensure consistency, alignment, and clear pathways for businesses. Rather than operating in silos, the Hub brings organizations together under a shared framework, so businesses experience support as connected and not fragmented.

           What does the Hub provide?

Through the Hub, businesses can access core services that support readiness, growth, and long-term sustainability, including:

            Financial planning

            Operations

            Management

             Network Access

            Business Development

            Certification and Licensing

These services are designed to meet businesses where they are and support them at different stages. This includes preparing for capital, navigating public or private procurement opportunities, and stabilizing and growing after financing.

           How does the Hub work?

The Hub operates using a hub-and-spoke model. E&BC serves as the Hub by providing coordination, shared systems, and core services, while trusted regional and statewide partners, referred to as spokes, deliver specialized or sector-specific support.

Spoke roles are formalized through Memorandums of Understanding to ensure clarity, accountability, and effective coordination. As these agreements are finalized, individual spokes and their roles within the Hub will be identified and shared.

Currently, there are two designated Hubs in Massachusetts. Additional Hubs are expected to be established over time as the model expands.

           Why this model matters

The Hub model exists to reduce fragmentation, strengthen regional coordination, and increase participation by MWBEs and other underrepresented businesses in climate-critical industries. By building shared infrastructure and aligned support systems, the Hub helps grow regional expertise, expand employment opportunities, and support long-term, climate-smart economic growth.

MassCEC launched the clean energy business support initiative to address a major statewide challenge: MWBEs are underrepresented in the clean energy sector and face barriers to accessing technical assistance, procurement opportunities, and capital. This award arrives at a critical moment, as the region works to strengthen and reconnect the systems that support business development, clean energy participation, and economic mobility across the Pioneer Valley.

These awards support our Clean Energy Electrical Training Program, delivered in partnership with Grounded Services, an early participant in our Consolidated Accelerator Program and now a technical training partner. While these grants build essential training capacity, they function as a spoke within a much larger system. The Hub is the primary structure that ensures this training connects to real business outcomes: procurement readiness, MWBE business development, certification pathways, and coordinated access to capital. In other words, the awards strengthen the workforce piece, but the Hub turns that training into long-term economic opportunity.

“These grants validate the work we have been building for years to create pathways for people and businesses historically excluded from opportunity. It also positions E&BC as an anchor institution for clean energy access in Western Massachusetts while strengthening our ability to connect talent, businesses, and partners in a coordinated system built to last.”

This partnership with MassCEC strengthens our community-based research model and reinforces our core belief: MWBEs deserve coordinated, accessible pathways into the future economy. As this hub model grows, it is designed to support workers, entrepreneurs, and MWBEs through every stage of growth, aligning workforce pathways, entrepreneurial readiness, and clean energy participation into one ecosystem.

Our CEO, Dr. Kelvin Molina-Brantley, recently shared insights on leadership in an article titled "You Don't Need a Title to Lead: Real Leadership Starts Within," published through the Young Professional Society of Greater Springfield (Springfield YPS). Aimed at young professionals navigating systemic challenges and uncertainty, Dr. Molina-Brantley emphasizes that true leadership stems from personal awareness and integrity rather than formal titles. Drawing from his extensive experience in military service, community initiatives, and as CEO of the Entrepreneurial and Business Collaborative, he outlines three core principles—self-awareness, integrity, and clarity through structure—as a framework for emerging leaders to build trust and create impact. This inspiring piece challenges readers to lead from wherever they are, highlighting leadership as a consistent practice of showing up with intention during times of societal and economic instability.
